Common Questions About Cattle Feed

  • It starts with the seed. We plant non-GMO corn, soybeans, and wheat, grow them in our own fields here in Hickman County, and mill them on-site. Nothing enters the mix from an outside elevator, so every bag traces back to the field it came from.

  • Cattle do well on both. The difference is what you can say about your animals and where the grain came from. If you market non-GMO-fed beef, or you simply want to know exactly what your herd is eating, non-GMO feed with real traceability is what backs that up.

  • Go gradual. Any grain change should be introduced over 7 to 10 days, mixing more of the new feed in each day, so the rumen can adjust. This goes for our feed the same as anyone's. If you tell us what your cattle are on now, we can suggest a transition plan.

  • It depends on your forage and your goal. Cattle on good pasture may only need a few pounds a day as a supplement, while grow-out and finishing animals need more. We adjust the grain-to-protein ratio to your animals' stage of production, so call the mill and tell us what you're raising.

  • We mill to your order, typically ready in 48 hours, so it never sits in a warehouse. Keep bags off the ground somewhere cool and dry, and use fresh-milled feed within about a month, sooner in hot weather.
